While visiting Kauai we spent about half a day exploring the different lookout points of Waimea Canyon. There were such beautiful views of mountains and ocean! The only downside (for me) was getting a little car sick on the winding elevation climb to about 5,000 feet. My husband had a BLAST weaving our compact rental car up the sharp curves. Those two things might have been connected…

IMG_7850_opt-2This gal was selling fresh fruit and drinks near the lookout. It only took a few minutes to get her attention away from the phone to fetch us some fresh cut pineapple (which was yummy and comparably priced to buying fresh cut fruit at the grocery store in Hawaii).

Because he saw this sign he thought he had SEEN THE NENE and told all his friends at school how he saw nene, turtles, and sharks. (We did actually see a flock of nene birds near our cabin, but since they are endangered we kept our distance).

He was so excited to be at the top of the mountain, but kept asking where the snow was.

I get kind of car sick from winding roads too, but those views sure look like they were worth it!

Amazing views! I want to visit Hawaii even more now! Though I can completely understand you getting motion sick. I always get that too but the views definitely made up for it, didn’t they?!

Thanks! It’s never too late to visit Hawaii ;) If you do plan a trip I recommend seeing more than one island while you are here. They are all so different and the flights are only around $100 each to fly between islands!

I have never been to Hawaii; maybe some day. Your photographs of Waimea Canyon are stunning! I have never seen layered colors of mountains like these. The green sections adjacent to red shades are striking. The mountains I am used to are usually snow capped and the alpine green carpet runs under the white. Hawaii truly is the top of mountains. Amazing how the peaks rise rapidly right out of the ocean!

Exploring the backyard where we are! It’s such a great plan for family adventure.

Thanks Teresa! We had such an amazing time there, truly beautiful place. My son was not pleased that there was no snow up there!

Yep exploring our backyard :) I actually booked this trip during our class when I was inspired to get out and see more of Hawaii!
